MarginGuard · Shopify + Klaviyo

Stop discounting the customers who cost you money.

Every store has them: shoppers who return half of what they buy, people who only ever check out with a code, orders that cost more to fulfil than they bring in. They sit on your Klaviyo list and catch every promo you send. MarginGuard finds them from your real order history and quietly keeps them off the discount.

The leak

Your best discount codes are landing on your worst customers.

Klaviyo is happy to send "20% off, today only" to everyone on the list. The trouble is that "everyone" includes the shopper who'll return it next week and the one who was going to buy at full price anyway. You can't see it in the campaign report, because the report only counts the sale — not what the sale cost you.

The serial returner

Buys a lot, keeps a little. Every discount you send just funds another round trip through your returns process.

The code-only shopper

Trained to wait for the next promo. You're not winning them — you're paying a discount on a sale you'd have made anyway.

The order that loses money

Once you subtract cost, shipping and the code, some orders finish underwater. Sending that customer another deal only digs deeper.

How it works

Connect two things once. It handles the rest.

Setup takes a few minutes. After that MarginGuard runs on its own and keeps the list current as new orders come in.

Connect Shopify and Klaviyo

Install from Shopify and link your Klaviyo account. MarginGuard asks for read-only access to your orders — nothing that can change your store.

It reads your last year of orders

On day one it works through your order history — refunds, discount codes, and each product's cost against what it sold for — to score every customer's real margin.

You review the "don't discount" list

Before anything touches Klaviyo, you see who's on the list and the plain reason each name is there. Disagree with one? Take them off. You stay in charge.

The list lands in Klaviyo — and stays current

MarginGuard writes a "Don't discount" segment into your Klaviyo account. Exclude it from a promo in one click. As new orders arrive, the list updates itself.

What's under the hood

Three margin signals, joined to the profiles you already email.

Return behaviour

How often a customer sends orders back — and how much of their spend actually sticks.

Discount-code reliance

Whether someone buys at full price or only ever moves when there's a code in hand.

Cost versus price

Product cost against what it sold for, after the discount, so a "sale" that lost money is counted as one.

You approve before it syncs

Nothing reaches Klaviyo until you've seen the list. Override any customer, any time.

Refreshes on its own

New orders change the picture, so the list keeps pace without you touching it.

Read-only and quiet

It reads orders and adds a tag or two to your Klaviyo profiles. It never writes to your store or messages a customer.

Questions

Good things to ask first.

Does MarginGuard email my customers?

No — and it never will. MarginGuard builds a segment inside your own Klaviyo account. What your campaigns do with that segment is entirely up to you.

What does it read from my Shopify store?

Read-only access to orders, products and inventory. It uses refunds, discount-code usage and product cost against price to score each customer. It never asks for write access, so it can't change anything in your store.

Do I need Klaviyo to use it?

Yes. MarginGuard is made for Shopify stores that run Klaviyo. It hands the "don't discount" list back to Klaviyo so you can leave those customers out of a promo in one click.

What if I disagree with a customer being on the list?

Take them off. You review the list before it syncs, and you can override any customer at any time. MarginGuard suggests; you decide.

How long until I see something useful?

The order-history backfill runs when you connect and usually finishes the same day. After that the list is ready to review and the app keeps it current on its own.

How much does it cost?

$15 a month, with a 14-day free trial and no setup fee. Cancel any time from inside the app.
