Extension terms of use

The short version: Email Link Checker is a free public beta from a one-person studio. Everything is unlocked, nothing costs money, and nothing you have today gets moved behind a paywall later. In exchange, it comes with no warranty: it is a pre-send aid, and you are still the one who presses Send.

1. What these terms cover

These terms govern the Email Link Checker Chrome extension and the service endpoints it uses at emaillinkchecker.shelfcompass.com, including the feedback endpoint behind the form on /email-link-checker/feedback.

They do not cover the rest of this website — the ShelfCompass marketing site is governed by the website terms — and they do not cover MarginGuard, which is a separate product with its own terms. What the extension sends over the network, and what is kept, is described in the extension privacy policy.

Installing or using the extension means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, uninstall the extension.

2. Free public beta

Email Link Checker is in public beta. Every feature is available at no cost. There is no account to create, no sign-in, no payment method to enter, and no usage tier — the whole product is simply on.

Paid plans may be introduced later. If that happens:

• Pricing will be announced on this site before it takes effect, not on the day it starts.
• Features already offered for free will not be moved behind a paywall retroactively for existing users. That is a standing commitment, not a marketing line: if a check works for you today at no cost, a future price list does not take it away from you. Paid plans, if they exist, will be built out of new capability.

Being a beta also means the product changes often. Rules are added, wording is corrected, and behaviour is refined between releases.

3. No warranty, and what beta actually means here

The extension reports what it can verify, and explicitly marks what it cannot. That distinction is the whole design: a check that could not be completed is shown as unverifiable, never quietly as a pass. But a clean report is not a promise that your campaign is correct.

In plain language: this is a pre-send aid, not a guarantee. It can miss things. A rule can be wrong. A service endpoint can be down, and a link that resolves for our checker can still fail for your recipient an hour later. You remain responsible for what you send. Nothing here transfers that responsibility to us, and we are not liable for a campaign that went out with a mistake in it — whether the extension flagged it, missed it, or was not run at all.

The extension and the service are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.

4. Acceptable use

The service endpoints exist to support the extension. Use them for that.

• Do not use the URL-status, DNS, shared-report, Test Inbox or feedback endpoints as a general-purpose proxy, port or vulnerability scanner, crawler, or mail relay.
• Do not use them to reach hosts you have no business reaching, to disguise the origin of traffic, or to send unsolicited mail.
• Do not attempt to circumvent rate limits, guess capability URLs belonging to someone else, or automate the extension against volumes it was not built for.
• Do not submit content through the feedback form that is unlawful, or that contains other people's personal data.

Rate limits apply to every endpoint, including the feedback form. The current limits are not published and may change without notice — they exist to keep a free service usable for everyone. Access may be refused or withdrawn where use falls outside the list above.

5. Feedback you send

When you submit the feedback form, what you send may be used to fix and improve the product. Specifically:

• A bug report, an idea or a platform request may be acted on, quoted internally, and turned into a change in a release. No obligation to act on it is created either way, and no payment or credit is owed for an idea that gets built.
• A review may be quoted publicly — on this site, on the Chrome Web Store listing, or in release notes — using the name you gave. If you gave no name, a quote is published anonymously.
• The contact address you give is never published and is used only to reply to you.

If you do not want a review quoted at all, say so in the message and it will not be.

6. Availability

There is no uptime commitment. The service endpoints may be slow, unavailable, changed or withdrawn, and no notice period is promised for any of that.

The extension is built so this degrades rather than breaks: checks that run entirely inside your browser — the snapshot, the link and merge-tag rules, spelling, the rendering preview — keep working when the service does not. Checks that need the network are reported as unverifiable instead of failing silently or turning green.

7. Your own responsibilities

You are responsible for having the right to scan the email you point the extension at, and for complying with the terms of the email platform you use it inside — Gmail, Mailchimp, Klaviyo or any other. The extension reads a page you already have open, on an action you take; it does not send, schedule or modify campaigns.

8. Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top of this page is updated. A change that materially reduces what you get — with the exception carved out in section 2, which is not up for revision — will be called out on the Email Link Checker page as well as here. Continuing to use the extension after a change means you accept the updated terms.
